Medicare Part C

Medicare Advantage Plans, or Part C, are run by private insurance companies but approved by Medicare. Arizona Medicare Advantage plans provide all of Medicare Part A, Medicare Part B and often Medicare Part D benefits. If you choose a Medicare Advantage plan, you do NOT need to buy Medicare Supplemental Insurance. Medicare Part C is a lower cost alternative to the original Medicare plan and offers more benefits.

Supplemental Medicare Plans, also known as Medigap Plans are additional government approved plans in addition to the original Part A and Part B that are provided by the private health insurance companies. To receive the benefits of a Supplemental Medicare plan, eligible Medicare applicants must also enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B.

Prescription Drug Coverage plans are available as either part of a Medicare Advantage Plan, or as Part D drug coverage plans.

Medicaid, also known as AHCCCS in Arizona, is available to some eligible Medicare recipients. Those with dual enrollment in both Medicare and Medicaid have most out-of-pocket Medicare expenses paid by Medicaid.

In Yavapai County, Arizona, there are 11 about Medicare supplement plans offered by roughly 43 different insurance companies, plus dozens of Medicare Part D prescription drug plans and around 9 Medicare Advantage plans.
